This year's Cesar Awards also honored Hollywood actor and director Kevin Costner with a lifetime achievement award.
Besides the Best Movie award, “Amour” also received awards for Best Director, Screenplay, Actor and Actress. The awardees were
Austrian director Haneke and two elderly French actors Jean-Louis Trintignant and Emmanuelle Riva (85 years old and also nominated
for the 2013 Actress Oscar).
The film won the Palme d'Or at Cannes last year as well as the Golden Globe for best foreign film in January. At the Oscars taking
place on February 24, this work received five nominations including Best Movie and Best Actress.
Kevin Costner, who won two Oscars in 1990 with "Dances with Wolves", received a standing ovation from the audience when he went up to
the podium to receive the honorary Cesar Award.
The above work helped Costner receive the Best Film and Director award and the 58-year-old star's career also includes other famous
films such as "Field of Dreams", "The Untouchables" and "The Bodyguard" as a couple. with the late diva Whitney Houston.
He shared in front of a packed auditorium in Paris: “I love the process of making films. It reminds us what it means to be a hero and
 how sometimes heroes don't win.”
At Cesar, the Foreign Film award was awarded to "Argo", but the director and main actor of this work, Ben Affleck, did not attend the award ceremony.
Last year, the work "Amour" made a big splash after beating 21 other films to receive the top award at Cannes. Now 70 years old,
Haneke is considered one of the most talented directors in Europe with famous works such as "The Piano Teacher", "Cache" or "Funny
Games"...
Before the Cesar Awards ceremony, the two most highly rated films were "Camille Rewinds" by director Noemie Lvovsky (13 nominations)
and "Amour" (10 nominations), but the first work had to go home empty-handed.
Despite having a difficult-to-watch topic about an elderly couple's life and their struggle with illness, "Amour" still received many
compliments from critics and won big at the box office.
About 680,000 people watched this movie in France and the audience in other countries was about 1.7 million. It is estimated that
about 50 countries have shown this work.
On the next Oscar night, the film is expected to reap more success when nominated in five categories: Film, Director, Lead Actress,
 Screenplay and Best Foreign Film.
Ms. Riva will turn 86 years old on the day of the Oscars, February 24, and has already made history as the oldest woman ever nominated
in the leading actress category.
