“I didn’t know how to fix it”: Jennifer Lawrence Regrets Choosing Hunger Games After Losing $3.3B Twilight Franchise to Kristen Stewart

Jennifer Lawrence played the role of her lifetime in the Hunger Games franchise when she took up the role of Katniss Everdeen in the first movie of the franchise back in 2012. Although the role made her the highest-grossing action actress, Lawrence was initially unsure about taking up part in the Hunger Games franchise.

The X-Men actress recently appeared on the Dumb and Dumber podcast and explained how she almost missed out on the role of Katniss Everdeen.

Jennifer Lawrence was unsure about taking up the role of Katniss Everdeen

Jennifer Lawrence appeared on the Dumb and Dumber podcast with Bill Simmons last month and talked about a lot of things including how she almost gave up the role of Katniss Everdeen because she was afraid of what had happened to Kristen Stewart after the release of Twilight. Lawrence was initially afraid of rising to mainstream fame and becoming an A-lister who always has to deal with media and stuff. She said,

“I almost didn’t do Hunger Games because Twilight had come out and that fandom had happened. When I was trying to talk to people about making this decision after Hunger Games got offered to me, it was hard to explain to people this level of fame.”

However, over the years Lawrence did get accustomed to being an A-lister and dealing with the media.

The Joy actress revealed that her rise to stardom had an adverse effect on her own acting

Jennifer Lawrence was already a big name in the industry even before she portrayed the role of Katniss Everdeen in the Hunger Games franchise. However, after the release of The Hunger Games back in 2012, the actress became a household name and went on to achieve the peak of her acting career. But this, stardom came at a cost and the actress could feel that all this fame was having an adverse effect on her own acting. Lawrence once talked about the situation in an interview with Variety and said,

“When Hunger Games was out, I couldn’t really be an observer of life because everybody was observing me. I could feel my craft suffering. And I didn’t know how to fix it. I was scrambling, trying to fix it by saying yes to this movie and then trying to counteract it with that movie. And not realizing that what I had to do was no movies until something spoke to me.”

After struggling to keep up her performance in movies, Jennifer Lawrence took a break from acting back in 2017 after she received mixed reviews from the movies Mother! and Passengers. The actress made her comeback to the industry back in 2021 with the movie Don’t Look Up and was phenomenal as ever in her portrayal of Kate Dibiasky.

All the movies of the Hunger Games franchise are currently streaming on Hulu.
